CRUIZER LOVE (FEAT. SAINT DOG)

The Song That Helped Put MIX MOB on the Map

The story of “Cruizer Love” began in 1996, when MIX MOB founder and lead vocalist Ryan Weaver wrote the foundation of the song with Matt Rowe bassist at his grandparents’ home, affectionately known as Nanna and Poppo’s. What started as a simple idea would eventually become one of MIX MOB’s most recognizable songs.

In 1999, Weaver collaborated with Saint Dog (Steven Thronson), a founding member of the legendary Kottonmouth Kings. Saint Dog brought his unmistakable vocal delivery and larger-than-life personality to the track, helping transform “Cruizer Love” into a Southern California reggae-rock anthem.

Released on MIX MOB’s 2002 debut album, So Cal Drunks, through Kevin Zinger’s Suburban Noize Records, “Cruizer Love” quickly gained attention throughout Southern California. The song received significant radio airplay on San Diego’s 91X (91.1 FM), becoming a local favorite and reaching No. 35 on the station’s Top 91 Songs of 2002. The track was also nominated for Song of the Year at the San Diego Music Awards, marking an important milestone in the band’s early career.

Following Saint Dog’s passing in October 2020, Weaver and MIX MOB revisited the song to honor their longtime friend and collaborator. Released in December 2020, “Cruizer Love (Saint Dog Tribute Version)” celebrated his legacy and the musical connection that helped define one of MIX MOB’s most memorable songs.

More than two decades later, “Cruizer Love” remains a defining part of MIX MOB’s history, capturing the carefree spirit, musical influences, and unmistakable sound of Southern California.
