THE STORY BEHIND THE NAME MIX MOB
One Sound. Different Styles. One Mob.
Before there was MIX MOB, there was FlipSide.
Founded in 1996, the band originally went by the name FlipSide. When the group made the move to San Diego in 1998, they were encouraged to come up with a new name, something that better represented their music, their identity, and the growing community surrounding them.
That’s when lead vocalist and co-founder Ryan Weaver came up with the name MIX MOB.
The name was inspired by the diverse musical styles that influenced Ryan, from punk rock and reggae to hip-hop, alternative rock, and everything in between. Rather than fitting into one genre, Ryan wanted a name that represented the freedom to mix different sounds and create something uniquely their own.
But the name was about more than just the music.
The “MIX” represented the music. The “MOB” represented the people.
From childhood friends who had known Ryan since elementary school to the fans discovering MIX MOB for the very first time, everyone became part of the same family.
The MOB wasn’t about organized crime. It was about loyalty, friendship, unity, and having each other’s backs. Like a tight-knit family, the connection went beyond the music.
Over the years, people have come and gone, life has taken different turns, and the music has continued to evolve. But the spirit behind the name has never changed.
Some have been part of the MOB since 1996. Others joined yesterday. And some are just discovering the music today.
It doesn’t matter when you joined. Once you’re part of the MOB, you’re family.
